The Villa

Our retreat for the week of Thanksgiving was Casa dos Marias in Las Brisas on the eastern edge of Acapulco Bay. Our friends Dave and Ray had made a house hunting trip earlier in the year and picked this jewel, mainly because of its spectacular views.

The villa pool
The bedrooms were enclosed and air conditioned, but the rest of the villa was open air, with the dining and living rooms opening onto the pool. Beyond the pool was a hot tub and at the edge of the property was a gathering area for conversation or quiet solitude.

View of cross
You may need to enlarge this photo to see it, but looking up the hill behind us, you can see the hilltop cross visible from much of Acapulco (it's at the crest of the hill toward the right).
The lower terrace
The lower terrace was very charming with roman columns, ivy, and many different flowers in bloom.
Lower terrace flowers
These are some of the flowers from the lower terrace. The towering palm to the right was right outside our bedroom window.

Moonrise
Besides excellent views of the sunset, we were delighted to have a full moon rise over the hills behind us.
The villa was also home to a family of tropical birds. They were very shy, and it was a difficult challenge to get a shot of them before they flew away. I managed only one super close-up, and if you reveal the picture I'm sure you'll be amazed by its stunning beauty.
